When we bought Gibson, we lived in Bloomington, MN. We now live in Nebish, MN. Nebish is located about 23 miles north of Bemidji, MN. We both have been dog lovers all of our lives. We both grew up having dogs in our families and both of us were excited to have one or two again.
Deciding on what kind of dog was fairly easy. We both wanted a medium to large sized dog. (We have the yard to support it.) We also didn't mind the extra cleaning if we were to get a medium to long-haired dog. Initially, I was gravitating towards a border collie and Loretta wanted either a lab or a retriever.
After doing some research, we decided on the golden retriever primarily because of its demeanor and looks. It sounded like they weren't quite as high strung as a border collie. After we had Gibson for 3 years, I was convinced that I wanted another golden retriever. We enjoy Gibson and Tanner very much and I think they have a pretty fun life also.
They go wherever we go. For example, you will find them along on our camping trips and we also took them to Traverse City, MI. Loretta and I enjoy camping and fishing so naturally Gibson and Tanner come along. We also enjoy golfing but they can't come along on that venture.
